Our name The Leyden jar was the first means of storing an electric charge which then could be discharged at the experimenter's will (aka a capacitor). It is named after the Dutch city of Leiden where Pieter van Musschenbroek invented the device in 1745. It is by far our favorite invention, as it underpins all of modern computing. Read more
